Beware I Am a Pacifist

If my hand should make a fist
By mark of what you’ve done
Or by your action I am forced
Unwillingly to take up arms

If my head should be defeated
And if my heart should rule
Just as blood flows through my heart
Then blood flow will be rule

If my hand should grasp a sword
Just as from the night the day is born
Then my God knows
That blood will be drawn

If my hand should ever dare
To make a fist
I warn “beware!”
For in the making of that fist
Does all my life’s anger exist
